Eight works for Fort Honswijk (NL)
In 2020, curator Ben Gort from Stichting Leger Diorama Wereld presented an exhibition at Fort Honswijk. A fortification of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie situated near the hamlet of Honswijk in Tull en 't Waal, municipality of Houten, along the northern banks of the Lek. Commissioned on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the exhibition brought together drawings by the artist under the title Verbeeld Bevrijding, translating roughly as "imagined liberation."
The exhibition unfolded across the fort's interior spaces during the weekends of May through August 2020, creating an environment wherein historical commemoration intersected with artistic inquiry. The drawings functioned as meditations on liberation, freedom and the aftermath of conflict, positioned within the architectural and historical weight of the fort itself.
This early collaboration established the curatorial methodology that would later define Gort's work at Historama Wereld: the deliberate juxtaposition of artistic works with historical sites and narratives, inviting visitors to construct their own meaning from the encounter between abstraction and place, between personal artistic vision and collective historical memory
