Studio Wittenburg Session
Cabo Mondego Section in Amsterdam

On a Saturday in April the Cabo Mondego Section of Portuguese Surrealism convened at my Amsterdam studio on Wittenburg and made eight mixed-media collages: found imagery from magazines, books and flyers combined with coloured pencil, pastel and acrylic on paper. Four of the works grew around acrylic-on-paper fragments by Kathy Fox, brought from England by David Coulter. Taking part were Miguel de Carvalho, Rik Lina, David Coulter and I.
The Cabo Mondego Section is an international group of surrealists who work together in the tradition of automatism, where the work grows out of shared, spontaneous gestures rather than a single hand. Automatic writing, chance, and free association flow from hand to hand, so that the final work belongs to no single creator.
